I would like to replace the coil packs in my 97 F150 4.6L......Has anyone used the Accel or MSD packs and did you notice any improvement in performance.......thanks for any replies
Just my opinion but I'd be surprised if it made an actual difference in performance. The factory igniton is pretty strong. The aftermarket coils do look kinda cool though
Yeah theres always the coolness factor to go for......thanks for the reply racer guy. My stock coils are starting to get weak so i'm gonna go with the aftermarkets.Just wondered if I could get some bang for my buck to

What makes you think your stock coils are getting weak?
I would suspect the plugs and/or plug wires first. If you are replacing the coils, the OEM coils are hard to beat, stay away from the aftermarket "performance" coils......
I to am looking into after market coils, I've seen articals in Mustang mags claiming 5hp increase on the 4-tower version (I have a 98) and as much as 15hp on the coil on plug versions. Now I know that all sounds ridiculous, but they post dyno data. I'd really like to know someone whos done it on a 150. Any one out there actually try it?
if a COP fires each time on compression, and you have no miss, what "increase in performance" are you going to get? The stock coils will easly fire at 5000 RPM on a stock engine and i dont think you want to do that continuously on your motor. at 2000 rpm it should be fine. if it misses at 80 MPH i would look more at the fuel , etc.

Thanks Steve,
I don't disagree, this is why I am asking where they are getting the increase. My F150 is a 98 and is not COP anyway but even the 5 hp from the four tower version would be worth it. The dyno dosn't lie either, but I'd sure like some verification before I spend the money. I'm not really concerned with a miss, it's time for plugs and maybe wires so I figured now would be a good time to do coils too if there is something to be gained.
