I get a hopping front end when I use my 4x4, Ive got a f-150 78 sc. I get hopping and vibrations in 1st, 2nd and reverse. Everything looks fine from what I can see.
do not use 4 wheel drive on the street or other hard surfaces it will bind and break something, there is nothing wrong with your truck, unless you broke something with what you just did. when you go around a corner in 4x4 the front must travel farther than the rear, in mud or snow the tires dont get much traction and just slip just a little, but on a high traction surface the tires don't want to slip so it can break stuff.
Please more info. You said, “when I use my 4X4” and later you said only “on the street”.
What does “use” mean? Are the hubs locked? Is the transfer case in 4X mode or 2X? Does this happen when you are turning, going straight or all the time? At what speed? Define hopping.
78250crew is right, bad things will happen when in 4X on pavement.
Never use you 4x4 transfer case engage on 4x4, as damage to the 4 wheel drive components could occur. Does your truck hop when the truck is in 2x4 mode?
