As I said, one reason to mix is to take advantage of closeouts. And while paying full price for synthetics may not seem a significant expense, I just don't like to waste money anywhere. I have already decided that paying $5/qt. is a waste in the summer, and frankly, I think it's marginal even in winter. But if I can get some benefit at $2 or $3 / qt., it might make sense.
