Which diesel would you choose for your SD?

More than likely, a couple of these will never be found under a SD's hood, but for now:

PowerStroke V8 6.4 650 lb-ft, 350 hp
PowerStroke V6 4.5 440 lb-ft, 240 hp
4.4L V8 500 lb-ft, 300 hp
3.6L V8 400 lb-ft, 250 hp

Ratings for the small-displacement CGI V8s are based on guesswork and heresay, and I added to the hp rating of the VT275 for light duty apps. I'm looking for responses based on hp, tq, and mileage...not expected reliability or cost (who knows?). Does anybody know if the new 3.6/4.4 are OHC designs?

The main reasons I hear cited for choosing diesels (that I want to discuss in this thread) are towing and economy...would you choose a more economical diesel over a powerful one if given the option? Considering all the engines will have 400+ lb-ft, they would all be strong for towing.

got to go with the 7.3 psd or idi. the 7.3 has proved its self for about 16 years. i would love to see it make a return althought unlikely.

the 7.3 is a great motor but you can always improve your motors, its time to move on, I want the dependability of the 7.3 and much more HP and torque,
I know I'm dreamin but would also like 25 MPG or better.

The 7.3L Powerstroke is MUCH different than the 7.3L IDI. The 7.3L PSD was around from '94-'03.

my wish when ford was going to the 6.0, was the add a 4 valve OHC head, and get rid of the two valve. more air in, more air out= more power. add a compound turbocharging system and the HEUI is high tech already. that would have met the 2004 emissions requirements, and ford probably wouldnt have such a bad reputation for the 6.0, and they would have more time to R&D the 6.4

I'll take a 6.0 all day long. Positive experiences with both, just unplug those EGRs. I'll take the 650 tq please!

I know this. the idi was from 1984 or 5 ibelive to 1994.5. they really anrt that diffrent in terms of Hp and tourqe. the n/a idi made about 185 hp i belive. and the first gen PS made about 222 hp. i was just stating that both the pre powerstrokes 7.3 and the powerstroke 7.3 have very good reliability and have alot of respect from any one that knows about ford trucks.

An F650 can be ordered with a Caterpillar or Cummins engine. As long as we are fantasizing, why not include those two instead of the V-6 and the two little V-8's? Let the F150 have them. So no, I didn't vote.

I'd choose whatever the military puts in the M1 Abrams tank..........

Barring that (haha)......I want to see a "comeback" 7.3L powerstroke (a little cleaner and a little more powerful stock)....Hey, if George Foreman could do it..........
