My 95 F-150 4x4 scab with a 5.0 is starting to leak exhaust again and getting loud. I have been contimplating putting headers on and a new exhaust, Once before I took it to a exhaust shop and the guy told me that if I put headers on it and a entirely different exhaust I would be having problems with the motor and all the sensors. He suggested just a cat back system. Well my dilema is my leak is ahead of the catalytic convertor. I have welded the holes several times in the past to quiet it down. Anyone else changed the entire exhaust system? If so what problems have you ran into? Do you have to change anything as far as the motor or sensors go? Any info would be helpful.
Exhaust shop guys sometimes don't have the detailed info to give such advice....
I don't know if your truck has an auto and is MAF or if it's a stick and has Speed Density - but either way...you should only have 1 o2 sensor which is before the cat(s).
The newer stuff, like 96's and up, have more than one o2 sensor, specifically one before and after the cat to check it's operation. In that situation, it could screw things up but there are ways to make sure it's ok.
I see no problem with you getting a set of headers, maybe bassani y-pipe, and finishing the exhaust however you like...
The only important things are making sure you get headers that will fit your truck and making sure the o2 sensor is in the right place afterwards.
yea thats what im doing on my f250 right now. all you have to do is weld in bungs for the o2 sensor about where they were in the old pipe. just has to be close. then it will be ok and you wont have any problems. shouldnt even throw a check engine light.
