I am being told that KYB shocks are really good towing shock. I have an 2001 x with 7.3 towing a 28' towhauler. I was wondering what you guys thought about the KYB shocks or any other shock I need to upgrade. Thanks again.
We have Edelbrock IAS shocks on ours, a friend has Bilstiens on his. I prefer the Bilstiens, but the Edelbrocks are a close second. I haven't towed with our X yet, so I'm not sure how they'll do under those conditions.
The reason that Bilstiens, KYB Monomax and Edelbrock shocks works so well is they are a monotube design which works better for these heavier vehicles. Any Monroe and Gabriel, including the Rancho brand which are made by Monroe, are a twin tube design which does not work as good for heavier vehicles, they tend to overheat fade faster. Anything marked Heavy Duty is just a twin tube shock with the valving adjusted to make it stiffer. An adjustable shock like the Rancho 9000 just lets you adjust the valving and stiffness.
Thanks it sound like I am going to go with the Bilstiens. Is there any certain ones or do you just order by the make of your vehicle. Thanks agian for all the help.
