engine swap
i need your guys help i have a 85 4x4 ranger with the v6 and stick shift i also have a fuel injected inline four in my 89 ranger that is a 2 wheel drive with a stick shift what i want to no is. can i swap the inline four into the 85 and if i can what would i need to swap from the 89 to the 85 as in like wiring or what not

You'll need everything from the four banger. Computer, wiring, harnesses, engine mounts, and transmission. That should be good. Most everything will work fine, I think the driveshaft will be the correct length still, everything else should line up.

does the tranny behind the 4 banger have the dummy t-case? if so you can use that tranny and put the real (functional) tcase behind it. if it has a 2wd tail shaft. you will need to find a 4x4 tranny that will bolt to the 4banger if u intend to have 4wd. and like RP said you will need everything assoc. with the 4banger to make it work. fuel pumps and fuel tank will have to swap too. the 85 has a carb engine and uses a mech fuel pump with no pumps in tank. the efi engine has one in the tank and may or may not have one on the frame rail just under the drivers side floor board. (some where along the way ford did away with the 2 pump system and just went with one pump. not sure what year the x-over was on that)
