I just bought this 1989 F150 super cab/short bed and had it in 2H until i decided to test the 4x4.
First there was a clunk everytime the wheel turned over.
Any clue???
Then the worst part. I took it out of 4x4 because I didn't like the sound and after about a mile the transmission/transfer case was grinding everytime I idled to a stop. Then it lost power completely.(engine still ran). So i shifted around the transfer case and now it's stuck in 4x4 LO.
Really Frustrating to drive at a top sped of about 40mph at 4500 rpm.
Need HELP!!!!
Need the truck to work
is it a pushbutton or a lever? if it's a lever, try backing up and shifting it out gear while backing up.... thats a good trick for the old fords that had mismatched gear ratios.. i.e. 4.09 front gears and 4.10 rears...
Well backing it up didn't work, i don't think running it up off all wheels will either.
but thanks for the help, please give me more suggestions becasue i really don't want totake out the TC to fix it.
Meanwhile I'll try jacking it up off the ground.
