Rust Rust Rust

I have a 6 month old Sport trac. Never seen gravel roads but my factory chrome running boards ( tube style ) are already beaten up by road salt and are pitted with small rust spots. Anyone else have this happening to them. ?? Built Ford Tough ??

I have a 02 Explorer and recently noticed the rear of one of the running boards is blistering. Kinda sucks!

Do you have mud flaps installed, and do you wax your chrome? Otherwise, it will happen again.

I agree that wax etc will help, I just feel the quality of the chrome should be good enough to handle a bit of gravel / road debris at least when new. My old 91 Ford is still going strong, chrome wise and it's been to Texas and back many times.
