Hey guys, first post here. I have an '02 350 SD 7.3PSD 4WD Crew w/110K on her. First have to say, I love this truck and would buy it all over again.
I tow almost every day in the summer, heavy stuff. One of my trailers developed a short this past summer and popped a fuse. I parked the trailer and replaced the fuse. Now, none of the other trailer brakes work. I replaced the basic tekoshi(sp) with the new prodigy contoller and still no brakes. Here's the catch, the controller turns on and acts like it's working when I plug in a trailer but I get no braking out back, not even in "turbo" braking mode. I would think if there was an inline fuse blown, the controller wouldn't know that it was hooked up to a trailer.
Tonight, I developed my first Electronic 4WD malfunction. Lately, it has been taking longer and longer to engage and disengage the transfer case. Tonight, it decided to never go in. Four fresh inches of snow, greasy as hell, and I had to pull a girl out of a ditch in 2wd. This thing is a beast even in 2wd. Snatched that "Yota" out no problem. Anyway, hoping someone can offer some experience on this stuff. I searched the hell out of the forums, a lot of people never post the solution. I will check the tranfer case motor tomorrow (gear motor encoder), but I hear no noise coming from underneath while flipping the switch and the light works but doesn't come on (4hi-4lo). I guess I should check for a bad connection first. Progressively getrting worse might be a tell tale. It started last month when it was cold as hell. I thought maybe some ice in a vacuum line but now know that that end is electric. The auto hubs work fine.
Thanks,
Jim

Yea, id definitely check the motor first, and see if it is working, or use a test light and see if power is coming down to the motor when you switch on 4x4. As for the trailer brakes, the "C" shows up on the Prodigy display when you plug the trailer in? Can you confirm that the trailer brakes actually work with another truck? Also, check and see if you are getting power to the back of the truck by having someone hold the trailer brake manual slider over and using a test light to see if power is comin back. This way you can definitely isolate where the problem is. If the "C" shows up on the Prodigy, this means that it is seeing a circuit through the trailer brakes, at least this is what it is supposed to mean.
Yeah, I get the "c" and the numbers cycle only when a trailer is plugged in. My Ram2500 applies the brakes on these same trailers. The new controller is awesome though, I wish it worked. It actually applies more voltage in proportion to how fast I'm stopping. Very cool piece.
Hmm, thats odd because for the controller to show a "C" and the power going back to the brakes it has to sense a circuit to be present. Try the test light idea, with the ground and + side of the test light to the blue and white (or whatever color your ground and trailer brake wire are) and have someone apply the manual slider in the cab. With the power on full, the test light should light up brightly. If this doesnt happen, then there has to be a wire that is loose or corroded somewhere in the system. It might allow enough current to flow through for a circuit to be present, but not enough for the brakes to actually work. A good start would be to check the wires going into the female portion of the trailer plug harness. Sometimes they can corrode and cause all sorts of headaches. I dont think it is a fuse because the controller is technically working like it should.
