Guys,
I thought I read about this before on FTE but a search didn't really help me out, so here goes.
My truck doesn't seem to have power steering when I am just sitting still, whether in drive with my foot on the brake or in park with no brake applied. If I am in a parking lot trying to turn into or out of a spot I can hardle muscle the wheel to turn at all. With my truck being a CC I don't have much room to start with. It seems like I only get the power steering after the truck gets rolling a little bit.
Do you guys have the same thing or does it sound like I have a pump issue? What have you guys done to improve yours?
Yep, I have the same problem but not nearly as bad as you describe. Have you changed out your power steering fluid lately? If you flush it with new synthetic fluid it should help some but you will still need to have the truck rolling for it to turn easy.
Joe
The issue is due to the brakes and power-steering working off the same pump and power assist. At idle, their is low presure in the fluid/brake assit system.
Common problem when turning with brakes on in a parking lot.
Sorry for the non-technical terms, but has been discussed many times over the last 3 years.
what year is it? I have an 06 and to be honest I've taken it back to the dealer twice for the same problem, however mine was also making a noise. The first time they replaced the lower steering arm, to me this did nothing I still have the same problem. The second time I took it back they said there is nothing wrong with it. basically deal with it when its cold out forget it its hard to steer but when its warm its not so bad.
