I have a 1978 f150 custom 4x4 and want to put dana 60's front and rear on it but have never done it before and had a few questions before i went out and tried to do it.
1. Does it have to be from the same year and make. like would a 1984 d60 from a Ford work or would a d60 from a chevy work.
2. Does it have to be from a 4x4 truck
3. How hard is it
4. What do you have to do to put them on your truck.
Sorry if these are stupid questions but i know nothing when it comes to stuff like this.
you can make pretty much any 60 from a ford work, chebbys and dodges have a right side drop transfer case so the differential is on the wrong side. obviously the front has to be from a 4x4 truck but the rear doesnt really matter. as for the last 2 i dont really know.
Thank you for explaining that to me. I have one more question im not sure if you know as its off the topic of the dana 60 but what advantages would have twin sticks for your tranfer case be. I know it allows you to make them hi or low independently (for a 205) but what would u do that for when offroading, as you can tell im young and dont know a whole lot and have a lot of questions.
i dont really know the advantages of twin sticking, but its cool. i guess the most useful thing that comes out of it is 2 low, i have a np203 with the part time kit and it has 2low now and i have used it alot. plus when the little ricers want to race you can do a front wheel drive burn out and confuse them . another thing i can see is if you deal with alot of ice/snow and have a locker in the rear and an open front you can not use the rear becuase it will walk you all over the palce on ice and use front wheel drive and take advantage of the engine weight over the axle.
edit: you cant twin stick a 203 the only thing you can do to it is the part time conversion which gets you a shift pattern like https://www.ford-trucks.com/user_gal...105358&width=0 and i have used the 2 low to pull stuck people out before when i didnt feel like locking in my hubs.
