my 79 f-150 4x4 rear axle tag reads 3L50 and i'm assuming it has a limited slip differential. do the clutch plates in these axles have to be replaced to make it grip better and where's a good place to look for replacments. i had one in another truck i used to own and it work well, thanks.
Make sure when ever you change the fluid that you remember to put in the friction modifier, usually about 4 ounces. Clutch type diffs do need this to help the plates grab for correct operation.
I just rebuilt mine, cost about $600 by the time I was done changing axles and what not (460's are kinda hard on those ) Make sure you have an extra "steel" put in. This will increase the breakaway force of the posi. I'm not impressed with how easily the posi will disengage. I didn't do the extra steel like I should have.
