LAST EDITED ON 19-Jan-01 AT 02:24 AM (EST)[p]I just changed the plugs on my 79 351m. I took out those 6 month POS bosch plats plugs and put in autolite regulars (#25) plugs. No more black smoke, not running rich anymore. I sltill have the 8mm bosch wires on. Should I replace the wires too. If so should I use autolite or another brand? Thanks.
running rich has nothing to do with your plugs.
has to do with your carb/
if your pouring black smoke out you need a bigger gap.
ive ran bosch with no problems b4.
i will never run Champion. because of stereo interferance.
BTW Autolite isnt FORD...its a plug by ALLIED SIGNAL...they are still a good plug.....but no better than anything else
The guy that built my shortblock told me not to ever run Autolite plugs. He said he uses Motorcraft plugs in everything, including Sprint car engines he builds. His second choice was NGK. He also said if I put Champion plugs in, he didn't even want to speak to me again. Since he is a friend, I didn't want to chance it. I'm sure every engine guy has his preferences, this is just my 2 cents worth.
Dave,
