Well guys i need your expert opinions and info again! Vin # 1FMZU73EXYZC53647. a 2000 explorer xlt, awd. i have searched the board and know the issue with the chain tensioners, cassettes, and guides. as this is covered under warranty. My question is, were ALL explorers built in 2000 at the st. louis plant covered by this recall? Guess what, its my turn in the barrel as i got severe chain rattle now. I was under the impression from all i read here that ALL 2000 explorers were warranty covered. The dealer after looking up my vin# and saying something about oasis report, that my vehicle is not covered in this campaign? The work has never been done on my vehicle, i am under 72,000 miles and not been 6 years yet. So guys of those who know, is the dealer taking me for a ride, because of ford short on money, and techs losing money on warranty work? can someone send or post me a copy of info to take to the dealer and say here see i told ya? sorry for ranting, but $1440.00 i was quoted for this fix is freaking me OUT1 Thanks guys.
Well, the timing chain rattle problem on my 2000 explorer is not covered on warranty for my vehicle. seems april 1st. 2000 was the cut off build date. My x was built in june.28th. of 2000. I will never buy another american made badge vehicle. They are all junk compared to the dependability of foreign cars. The engineers know plastic is a stupid idea inside engines, but yet they do it anyway. Pontiac tried it on the timing gears twenty years ago, and it didnt work then. They have their reasons to do it, but they are educated enough to know the results. so goodbye to fix or repair daily junk.
No new one here, back to my 1968 volkswagen beattle. half the parts twice the fun and super simple. take your over engineered flying trapeeze and good luck!
I just solved my 97 XLT SOHC's (132kmi): Timing Chain Noise, Intake Leak/Iac Valve Rough Idle, hard steering cold (PS Rack), Floppy Door Handle, Broken A/C Blend Door, and Intermittent Wire Harness problems by TRADING IT IN. Just couldn’t put a +1000 into a 1000 dollar truck. Sorry guys. Got a Honda CR-V.
There is a lot to be said about keeping thing simple, my biggest mistake was going with the 1st year of the SOHC VS the OHV, or 5.0L. I had a 93' 4.0L OHV 200kmi and very few problems.
Forgot to add my 97 SOHC's Air Bag Sensor needs replacement as well, very disapointing. Of cource the BFGoodrich AT TA's and my wife driving habbits didn't help but.......

You need to remember that a vehicle today has about 10 times as many parts as a vehicle of 45 years ago. Plastic or metal, these parts WILL wear out. When a foreign badged part wears out, it usually costs more. Whatever. Enjoy your next purchase.
BTW, yesterday the mass air sensor went out on my brother's 96 Nissan 4 cyl pickup. There are no aftermarket manufacturers of this. Instead of just replacing the little plastic piece that probably costs them $5 to manufacture, you need to replace the whole air horn that it bolts to at a cost of $425 dollars and a four day waiting period. Oh yeah, the 1" X 2" gasket that he needs to have will cost him an extra $8. That they have on hand, go figure.
Anyway, he's tired of his foreign truck nickle and diming him to death. (Times 1000) He's going to buy an American badged truck like I have.
