I just picked up a 96 Eddie Bauer with 74,000 miles on it....very clean....$4000.00 I bought to tow a 12 foot flat bed trailer.... trailer and load will not exceed 2400lbs ....should I be alright...it is a auto and the ford guide says 4900lbs towing....any help is appreciated ......also it has 235/75 15 tires and I was going to put 31 10.5 75 15's will they do OK...
You should be OK. I don't have any problems towing anything with 3.08's. Wouldn't hurt to install a trans cooler. If you put the larger tires on you might have trouble with towing and crazy trans shifting issues due to incorrect vehicle speed inputs.
u can reprogram the PCM to account for the larger tires on 92-96s...an a trans cooler is a dam good suggestion. i just said step up to more gear because it may dog on steep jills on the lats u'llbe ok.

The tire size is not a big step just one size...is it tough to reprogram the PCM...I am hoping that I will be OK on the grades...... typically the towing will always be less than 30 miles and most of the time no more than 10.......
I know you can program around it, but if someone didn't know that they would be really upset after installing oversize tires and having trans problems.
Only one size bigger is not an accurate way to describe your tire swap. You are going over 10% larger in diameter and about 25% wider. That is a very significant change in tire size. One size bigger would be a 245/75/15. A 31x10.5 would be more like going to a 265/80/15. I can tell the difference in my regular 255/60/15's and 275/60/15's. It is very noticable and that is only one size.

Thank you....I will have to rethink the tire change...It would be nice to have the bigger tire but its not worth the trouble if it is a genuine issue....
I would put on the 31-1050's, and swap in 3:73's with a lsd, if it's that nice of truck, it;s worth putting alittle money into. You'll be alot happier in the long run. Do the upgrades as you can aford to, but a trany cooler sould be your first priority with your setup!
