My 98 explorer xlt has the fm\cd\cassette radio , with the 4 door speakers. First the display quit, but everything else worked, so i lived with it for almost 2 years. Today, no sound. but the cd would run and ejected. have power to the radio, both fuses are good.
Is this a premium sound system, or what kind of system. There is no subwoffer in the back, so is there a seperate amp, or is it built in.
I figure it is time for a new radio. Could someone tell me what mounting adapter, and connectors I need.
Thanks
There is a trick to that radio. What you have to do is get some Ford radio removal tools or some coat hangers. Pull the radio out very carefully and chuck it into the trash....lol
Seriously those dual media radios have been trouble from the start. I talked to my old Ford radio warranty shop today and got some prices. They offer repairs starting at $15.00 to just look at the radio. If you choose to repair it then the money goes towards the repair. For a replacement radio they charge a flat fee with trade for the dual media $250.00 or you can even upgrade to a different unit.
You can talk to Kelvin for more information at Broadway Radio Shop 816-753-1960 or you can email him at knaffkbwr @ prodigy.net Tell him Travis sent ya.
These radios carry warranty. You can find others on ebay but at least you know you are getting a quality radio.
Thanks for the reply. I did check the display, long ago. The fix said to check for a burnt board before attempting the fix. Mine was burnt on one end badly.
I just want to make sure what adapters, faceplate I need, and where the amp is, if it has one.
Thanks
Turned it on this morning, and it worked fine. So I stoppped and found out what I needed to change it. Now it has a great sounding Pioneer in it. Big,Big Difference.

Sigh.... another FTE member that doesn't seek to save using us FTE vendors
Why slam me if you didnt understand my origional post: Is this a premium sound system, or what kind of system. There is no subwoffer in the back, so is there a seperate amp, or is it built in.I figure it is time for a new radio. Could someone tell me what mounting adapter, and connectors I need
yep, the first person that i talked to, and that includes my initial post here, that could help me identify my system, and what parts i needed, got my money. i posted here around 1 pm eastern time, and called local shops the next day to get my questions answered, of what to check for.
i did appreciate the response i got here, they did not answer my question, but wanted to sell me something i did not need. it directed me to a repair shop.my post was about looking for mounting hardware and harness adapters. i could have bought another ford radio locally, if i had wanted one.
is this another one of Fords great ideas, having spammers slam people for not buying something they didnt want.
