Exclamation Flippen' Delinquents!!!!!!!!!

Hello All,

I have an '02 Off Road XLT Ranger, it's been "the other woman" for a little over year now and it may cause the real one to leave if I don't stop paying attention to it. LOL! Now it has the usual brush scrubs and dings from gravel associated with hunting and fishing and I can deal with that, because I caused it, I'll re-paint and get the same grafics put on.

BUT I have to draw a line when someone else does it! I can only guess that some kids got ahold of packing tape or some other strong adhesive tape and decided that the seames of my fuel cap and doors were not water tight and taped them. My problem is that I got most of the backing off(not all) and it all left a tacky white residue. I have purchaced some "Goo Gone" but the wheather in my area hasn't permitted me to try it out yet.

Question, Is it safe to use a razor blade (Box Cutter) to remove the rest of the film and will "Goo Gone" remove the residue?

Techniques, products and help appreciated!

PK

I'd pass on the razor blade. Goo gone should work just fine, be careful how much you use, it could ruin the paint.

I'd then get a buffer or buff pad on a drill and compound/polish it back to match the rest of the paint.

I found that finger nails work well for removing stuff from paint, also a plastic razor blade could do the job too(auto body stores might have them).

I second the pass on the razor blade if the goo gone doesn't work try WD-40 its always worked for me.

Pretty much all of the auto stores have adhesive remover, which does a fine job. 3m makes it, I believe. You'll want to buff afterwards as the adhesive remover sometimes dulls the clearcoat.

You can use a single-edged razor blade (not a box cutter), but you really need to have a steady hand. I used to remove pinstripes that way all the time when i was younger, but I wouldn't attempt it now with carpal tunnel.

You do not want to nick the clearcoat.

Thanks for the input! Now that winter seems to be in remission here in KY I can finally get to work on this. I'll report back on what happens.

Thanks,

PK

What about heating it up a tad to get the adhesive warmed up, then try gently scraping it off.

So far the Goo Gone is working. I tried it on a cloudy day and got about 50% off. I'm waiting on a sunny day to try it when it;s warmer.
