anyone have any experience on rust removal/preventive paint...Im looking at a brand called por 15 right now but im wondering bout other options...im only usinfg it on my roof and floor boards for now but it's just small rust nothing too big...
I used some paint called Hammerite in the cab of my truck for the floof and roof and the doors then painted over that with my color paint. It worked for me. Also my dad used it in his 64 qalaxy. You can get it for any hardware store.
I used the por 15, the paint did what it claim to do, I liked it enough to buy the por 15 for engines, and did my engine approx 2years ago, and it still looks good. see my engine compartment in my gallery I'm not a spokesperson for por 15, I just like what it did for my truck. just my $.02
Cole, From my reading, it is great for non exposed areas, but not as a sheetmetal finish. It doesn't have UV protection and the finish is too hard to put anything more on it. For chassis and underside it is boss.
Used the Por15 on 65 frame and inner fenders few years ago, holding up well and truck is not garaged. Read about another product in the paint and body forum called Zero Rust, painted a few items; engine compartment brackets, pulleys, etc.,and lumber rack, so far impressed. Comes in aerosol cans and in different colors. The gal. cans lot cheaper if have spray equip. Unfortunately, only have a flat black, no simi or gloss blk. Suggest going to respective web sites usually have lot of info. If you should decide to go with the Por15 recommend purchase their solvent, only thing I found that will remove the paint if you get any on you.
If take in Auto Shows they are starting up this Month. Like to wait for the shows the "Goodguy Rod and Custom Association" puts on, they are usaually 3 day events and majority of the vendors are their, Por rep's included. The restoration enthusiast with vehicles on display are also a great source of info. The shows are put on thoughout the summer months, usually the first and last event are fully packed. Hate to drive the distance to find it is a cut down version. I have call goodguys in advance to inquire about available space to get an indication how large event is going to be. Can go to the Goodguy web page and get list of upcoming events.
