Got a new Aero!!

Hey guys, haven't posted in awhile. Just giving an update.

My wife loves her 89 Aero.... But.... She was driving by one for sale day before yesterday, and told be she wants it.

It's a 1992 XL Extended 4WD. Perfect light rose color paint. No dents!
Great interior, except the front seats are ripped, and the door panels are falling off at the bottom. (no problem to fix) And a cracked windshield.
111,000 miles. AC and Heater woth flawlessly.
Includes 4 studded snow tires (extra)

Went last night to take it for a drive. WOW!! No shimmy, shake, rattle. Doesn't pull to right or left. Engine sounded brand new! No ticks, started right up!

So, I took it to our family mechanic for a blessing. He hooked it up to his kick butt diagnosis machine. Guess what? NOT A SINGLE ERROR!! Not even in memory!! I about started to weep...LOL
He checked underneath, on top, listened to the motor, checked the CO level. All perfect.
Only has a very small amount of valve cover seapage in one spot. (a spot the size of a dime)
Got his seal of approval, and almost had to fight him over it....LOL

This vehicle has only had 2 owners. All of the maintenance paperwork is included.

Now, some questions:

I read somewhere in here on how to quiet down the loud power steering pump. It's extremely loud! Any ideas?

And, has anyone had to replace a windshield? If so, what ballpark price did you pay?

Is there anything I should be checking?

How does the 4wd engage? Is it always on? I see the light come on when I start it, but it goes off.

What year range for front seats will bolt right in? We have several good U-Pullit's here.

Ok... Any guesses on how much I paid??? And remember, this is a 2 owner car.

Sounds like a great van.

AWD is all done by computer, Full-time 1/3 power to front, 2/3 power to rear, when sensors detect slippage, clutches momentarily transfer power where it's needed.

If you bought it from the owner, I would guess $1200, from a dealer, 2000+. Whatever it cost, it was a great deal!

Prices might be higher west of the Mississippi.

Congrats on the great find!

I read somewhere in here on how to quiet down the loud power steering pump. It's extremely loud! Any ideas?

Replace the fluid with Synthetic ATF. That is what Ford recomends in the owners manual and most Ford enthusiasts do it. (Common problem accross the board with Fords)

And, has anyone had to replace a windshield? If so, what ballpark price did you pay?

Pull out the phone book and let your finger do the walking and get some quotes. I haven't had to do that yet (knock on wood)

How does the 4wd engage? Is it always on? I see the light come on when I start it, but it goes off.

It is computer controlled. The brain is located under the drivers seat. The light will come on when it engages 50/50 power. It only will do that under 15mph to get you unstuck. Otherwise it is 70/30 the rest of the time.

What year range for front seats will bolt right in? We have several good U-Pullit's here.

Any seat out of a '86-'97 will fit. I would recomend a '92+ because the seat backs are a little taller (if you are a tall person, you will notice the difference.)

Ok... Any guesses on how much I paid??? And remember, this is a 2 owner car.

NADA says around $2575 for retail, so I would agree with Dracoscott and say around $1200-$1500 sense there is not a high demand for minivans, especially 14 year old mini-vans.

Nope! Try $500.00!! Too good to be true!

Just hope there isn't an underlying problem hidden somewhere.

The people that owned it live in an apartment complex, and are only allowed 2 rigs. The wife got a newer Windstar from a 3rd party, so they decided to just off it.

Sweet huh?? I already have the 89 sold for $500.00. Man, this just keeps getting better and better!!

That's right, synthetic.... I knew I read that somewhere.

Thanks for the info on the 4wd. That's cool!

You know what kinda sucks? I only get to drive it home....LOL My wife prob won't let me touch it after that. (Except to put her stereo in) Drat.
I'll have to keep an eye out for another one.

congrads dna,
great crusin rig
gonna love that big 4L and it's horses and wagon pullin torque

Aeros statistically cause more family driver arguments than any other vehicle unless there are enough Aeros to go around for all.
His and Her Aeros promote family harmony

except in this household, she won't drive the "ugly green toad"...she does like to tell me how to though...
works for me

Wow, awesome deal! I payed $800.00 for mine. With AC and engine running good, I'd say $500.00 was worth it.

What size of motor is in this beast? Feels like a 4.0l.

Got new seats yesterday, from an Aero in the U-Pullit. Great condition, and only 30 bucks! (mine are really torn up)
Also got the ignition cylinder for 5 bucks.

Getting the windshield for 50 bucks, and installed for 55.00.

So..... here's what I have in it:

Van = $500.00
Seats = $30.00
Ignition Lock = $5.00
Windshield and install = $105.00

Grand total so far = $640.00 Heck Yeah!

I'll snap some pics later, and post em.

One question:

When the vehicle is running, I hear a fairly loud steady hummmmmmm from right behind the drivers seat, about where the fuel door is.
Guess it's not too loud, but we don't hear it in our 89.

Sounds like a fuel pump? Is this that noticable in your rigs?

Great buy on that Rosie Aero . My first one was the '92 like your's.Spoiled me forever. I would check the recalls on your new baby if you have not. There was a pretty expensive part associated with the AWD that cost me $ 1300. for the part alone, to replace before the recall . If you turn your wheels right or left sharply like when you are turning around ,and you hear a very noticible click-click- click-click coming from the wheel area, that's it. For the life of me I can't remember what is was called. I bet someone else here does. Sounds like Rosie was properly maintained so I'm sure it was done.

HUUMMMMMMMMMMMMMM I had no humm in my 92' Red Deerslaying Magnet, only problem, it did attract every deer in the area.I did replace the fuel pump, fuses for the power windows once, and numerous other plastic parts. Sweet .

You can still do re-calls? How does one go about this?
Where can you find out about recalls?
