my 66 f100 has a 460 that i'ld like to BLOW. how many psi's can a stock 460 with stage II rods and Forged pistons handle? compression is suppose to be 9:1. i was thinking of the weiland 8-71 or a kuhl supercharger. NOT SURE OF THE SPELLING THERE. which pullies will i need to get say around 15 psi? and 25 psi?
i wouldn't run over 12 psi and that would be with race gas, and I wouldn't do it to a stock engine or mildy warmed over fresh rebuild, you should consider O-rings for the heads and studs for crank and heads, a new cooling system. 25psi is for race engines and airplanes
To put anything past 10-12psi, the engine has to be built specifically for it; i.e., ALL CAST IRON, the entire bottom end of the engine has to be literally bulletproof! You will want to be burning alcohol through 2 massive carbs, you'll probably want a cam designed for at least 7000rpm and to work with your blower/alcohol. Your rear end gearing will probably have to be around 5.11:1, and you'll want a race designed tranny with at least 2500 stall above stock. You're going to want the bed tubbed with a tonneau cover and narrowed axles + the biggest, widest tires you can find. You are going to need MAJOR port work, and massive valves to let that monster exhale. Of course you're going to be wanting some VERY long headers with at least 4" pipes. You're probably going to have to fabricate your own head gaskets out of tin or copper, to keep them under the heads.
You know, this engine would be just perfect for a '23 T-bucket! But, as you can tell, you've got some SERIOUS work ahead of you before you're ready for the power that you're wanting.

Nothing, and I mean nothing, stirs the soul, saying I'm a bad **** like lettin'em rip with a window shaking, fuel gulpin, carbon monoxide belchin, attention gettin, V-oh my LORD!-8!
If you just want to play then keep the boost to 6-8psig due to the compression you have,do not let the engine lean out or detonate, get the exhaust to flow as much as you can , a restrictive exhaust with a blower will fry your engine fast and stay off the nitrous,at the minimum put in head studs.

The firewall relocated, the hole in the hood, etc... I really think you should, honestly! A blown 460 putting 1000+ horses out of a vehicle that's about the size of my kitchen table! That's my dream, '23 T-bucket with a no-nonsense full DRAG 514cid (stroker 460)!
Just make sure that you plan for that kind of power from the start...

well i dont know how old this thread is, but i just stumbled across it. sounds like a cool deal to me, a friend of mine ran a 499 stroker on the street a few years back in a 70 mustang fastback, it was a stock block with an offset ground 460 crank with narrowed 225 slant six rods, or at least the length was, they were h-beam, he used to run 10lbs around town like it was nothin dustin off chevrolets and ricers left and right, he'd take that damn thing to the track bolt on some slicks and it'd run 6.90's in the 1000' track we run, of course it was backhalved too, with ladders and 32x14x15 goodyear slicks or 3316.5x15 sportsmans, far as i remember he just ran a set of iron cobra jet heads, the DOOE castings with the exhaust cleaned up, never o-ringed not a thing, only thing he really did as far as anything goes is like main studs and head studs things of that nature, dont know what kinda power he was makin but sure as hell was fun round town, it was an 8-71 with 2 850 holleys on it, some kinda dished piston thinkin big chevy, not sure, might give him a call, he runs a repair shoop there in town, place called b&b auto, its in conway arkansas
Here's my reply to the 5 year old post.
