thought I'll throw this out there. my bronco charging system seams to be on the fritz. when I'm driving the head lights will dim and then brighten again. the amp meter will drop while stopping at a light and than raise up again while driving. the battery light would come on from time to time real quick, I changed the belt and now it whistle's a bit (sounds a bit like a super charger) the alt and voltage reg are about a year old. when I pull the bat cable with the truck running it does not stall. almost seams a pulley is seizing and dragging the charging system down. any idea's? how can I check the pulleys?
Check all your battery leads.....pay close attention to the ground wires their terminals and connection points. Make sure they are all clean and tight. Then working with a known good battery go from there.
Watch your connections near the battery terminals too. if the insulation on the batery cables is cracked or frayed, chekc to make certain the wires hasnt begun to corrode from the inside out. I chased a simlar problem that ended up being a battery cable that still carried the necessary voltage but was so far rotted inside that it only had about a tenth of the amperage capacity
thanks for the help guys, I changed the battery as it was 3 years old, I guess diehards die alittle less harder these days. as for the cables they are only 3-4 years old as well, I bought a truck that some rocket man cut the terminals off and put on cheap replacements (wtf?) one thing I don't under stand is that of all the cars I've owned my bronco seams to get allot of battery corrosion forming on the terminals, I have to clean them about every 3 months or so. so far so good, but we'll see.
