Well guyes : be very carefull when porting on the exhaust side>
\
I know Ya went to far!!! shoot, the water jacket was exposed, when porting on this side the small square casting in the exhaust port can be ground down , only go about .150 per side into it or you to will be looking for heads in the back yard.. Isnit fun breaking stuff?
better the exhaust than the intake... if you can get it welded back up, even if it starts to seep a little bit it'll go out the exhaust instead of into the motor.... my ex brother in law hit into his intake side water jacket and had it welded back up. it's been running hard in his fairlane for the last 9 years with no problems..
I saw a post from a guy in an RV forum who got into the water jacket. He had a friend that was an experienced mig welder weld a bead accross it. Worked just fine. He pre-heated first with a torch. People will tell you that you cant weld cast iron but you can if the guy's good.

The only problem is when you shut the motor down and it just so happens that that exhaust valve is open and coolant leaks into the cylinder. Start it up and BANGO! Hydrolock.
Either get it welded by a VERY good welder or go find another cheapie head.
the bottom inside square (small) .this is were i should of only taken .050 or less.
a welder is going to try to fix it . i will now more later this week.AHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!
well I did the same thing when I ported my other head the first time. went right into a water jacket on number 5 cylinder. had it welded up by professional welder(heated the head before welding) It started seeping about 60 miles into it. Got a another head and had it redone. Accidntally dropped the pump drive keeper in the oil pan, so had to remove the pan and found more than the oil pump drive keeper. found a main cap bolt from # 2 main cap. also found that the block had crack were the bolt screwed into. So now I have a completely new motor due to a little cylinder head leaking. only thing my machinist and I could figure out is when the engine was idling and your cam is in overlap. you get a little scavenge and sucked water into #5 piston hole and as water dosenot give . BANG brock the block. This is my two cents get a new head!!
Here's the good news: I believe the D2TE and C8AE heads are just as good as the CJ heads if they have the exhaust valve changed over. Since you have heads with exhaust valves already, putting exhaust seats in another seat of heads might be the way to go... and start porting on them all over again... too bad about blasting that CJ head though...
I'm sure someone will come along to prove me wrong
I like it when people destroy CJ parts...It makes mine more valueable
Seriously though, I feel your pain. I think anyone who has ever ported their own heads has ground thru up at one time or another. I have several junk sets of heads laying around that I used for practice before I actually did the heads for my 5.0L. Hopefully that welder knows his stuff and can fix the head.
I am running C8AEH heads with Stainless 2.09/1.65 valves . i ported and polished them learning were to go on the old head I screwed up but they will flow nicely when their done. My 418FE runs extrmely well!!
