Wont Start.
I have a 1985 f.i truck and it wont crank over (Start up) i think its the timing since when we move it alitte it trys to start up but doesnt. its getting spark and fuel. the dizzy, ignition moudle, wires and starter are all new. what do yall think it could be? Or how can i set the timing?
I'd pull a couple of plugs and make sure it's not flooded. Then I'd get my hands on a gauge and check the fuel pressure. It should be around 35-40 PSI. You could also check for any major vacuum leaks.
Now that the easy stuff is out of the way...
Take out your #1 spark plug and have someone bump the starter while you hold your finger over the plug hole (make sure to disconnect the coil wire and ground it). When you feel air being pushed out that means the piston is coming up on Top Dead Center (TDC). Stop cranking and try to get the timing mark on the harmonic balacer lined up with the '0' on the indicator. Then, pull off the dist. cap. The rotor should be pointing at the #1 post. If it's close, just rotate the distributor 'til it lines up. If it's 90* or more off, then you may have dropped the dist. in wrong or the timing chain slipped.
I hope this helps! Let us know what you find!
