Hey everyone... what is your personal opinion on straight duals out the back, duel stacks in the bed, or duel side pipes on the 73-79 trucks; particularly short beds cause thats what ive got.
Depends on whether or not you get caught. If it's worth it to you to have to re-do your exhaust if the police catch you, more power to you.
I might suggest a compromise...run hedders into straight 40 series FlowMasters dumped right in front of your rear axle . They're plenty loud...and they're legal.
I think dual side pipes would look good, a f250 around my house has it that way, it sounds really good.
I have glasspacks both running out the right rear tire, I bought it like this i want to change to side pipes.
Have mine that dump in front of rear tires wish I did it at a fourty five instead of straight but I also have exhaust cut outs turned down right behind headers. Have pics in gallery.
Mine dump in front of my rear tires, but with turn downs, not out to the side of the truck. My cutouts dump at the rear corner of the cab when they're open, straight out to the side. Great for the ricers with the fart can mufflers.
It'll be LOUD, run dually's to the back (you won't have to crank the radio everytime you turn on your truck) and run a shorter muffler series. It will be loud but not very loud. :edit > load to loud.3/14/06:

It is always best to cut off the pipes at an angle or use turndowns. Surprisingly it cuts some of the harsh popping and "rubber band" sounds that the ricers are so fond of with their fart cannons. If your pipes stop under the bed turning the turndowns outward at about a 45° angle also helps reduce resonances with the pickup bed that sound like hell. That sound is like a ricer with a bad sub install and a loose rattling trunk lid. Personally I like the Magnaflow mufflers better than Flowmasters or glasspack types, they have a nice rumble when cruising and bellow real well when you get on it. Good sound levels without being obtrusive if you want to listen to tunes or cruise. -Just some advice from a guy that installed a LOT of exhaust systems on all kinds of vehicles back in the hot rod days and some experience since. Back in the old days I installed systems fro friends and customers that I either rode with or had to listen to their vehicles all the time. So if it did not sound right I heard about it in more ways than one...

I have the same setup as quehele, flows, in front of the rear tires. It sounds good. It gets peoples attention when you get on it. Keep in mind that "people" includes cops. Experience talking. Careful where you let it roar.
cool, thanks guys. im thinking of going duels out the back. whats the pros and cons of going straight out under the bumper as aposed to the 90 bend behind the tires... and what exactly does a turndown do? and what type of muffler should i use to sound throaty and all that, but not incredibly loud? thanks
