not any this year. Last year when the soldiers got back from Iraq there were a bunch of Dodges sporting all the nifty neato decals. After four or five of them had their *** handed to them by a taller, more doors, longer, 4x4 truck then play very cautious when creeping up on any SuperDuty.
BTW Hemi is old skool technology... why go back wards. It wasn't really that bad *** back then.
BTW number two..... don't let any one know this, but the 3v V10 is technically a Hemi too..... spark plug being near dead center of piston and bore and all hee hee hhe
Nope. Whenever I get next to one at a light, they look at the V10 emblem, and then act like I'm not there.
My nephew-in-law is now a die-hard Dodge truck guy since getting a job at a dealership. He bought a used 1500 hemi. He was so pumped up one night he was like "let's go, let's go, let's chain up and see who can drag who, I'll drag you all over the place". I said "don't you remember I have a V10?". His answer: "Oh, just forget it then".
I didn't want to tell him I could have a 5.4L and still have dragged him all over the place because my SD weighs more. But intelligence is lost on people like that.
Not that all Hemi owners are like that, nor that the V10 really deserves that type of respect, but it was funny nonetheless.
something in the air around my home now.they look see the v10 tag and run tail. all the young hot shots are living me alone what gives?
fred thanks for reminding me how those chambers look.
The heavier 2500s don't stand a chance against any 01+ V10 powered SD, the extra weight kills them. In a half ton they run pretty strong and have a couple of thousand pounds on us, I beleive it would take a 3V to show them whos who but you won't be embarassed in a 2V either, they'll hold there own but unless your really on top of the wheel you won't catch back up if you fall behind at the light (with a 2V). If your good and get lucky and nail it right while there still sleeping you'll make that V10 look real good and you won't ahve to take any **** from the hemi guys. like I said the 3V V10 torqueshift do a better job of droppping them like flies but the lightweight does play to there advantage. Don't let anybody tell you that they have no low end torque and make all of there power up high because thats just a bunch of honkey, they are the most powerfull in the half ton class, remember they are only a 35? cubic inch engine so liek the reast of my post says, they deserve as much credit as the next, they just aren't competitoin for the larger more powerfull and equally fuel effiencent 6.8L V10! (P.S. there fuel mileage is horendous!)
Well, I didn't know it and she sure didn't act like it...at first. But then she showed me the color of her nail polish on her longest finger when I slowed down to bask in victory.
BTW - it was a 2500, not the 1500. Never got into it with a little pickup...
I used to practice launching my Triumph TR7's by holding the motor at 6500RPM and then letting the clutch out just fast enough to keep the engine around the 4500-5000 mark (where all the torque was).
The rear suspension was setup to plant the rear-end into the pavement when it torqued over. So I could launch that thing without any wheelspin and get absolute max push. (and CV joints for the driveshaft).
With a 3.90 rear gear and the little 175/70r14 tires, I could launch that thing way out in front of almost anything.
I've gotten so used to the V10 that I can launch that thing right at the limits of the rear tires' adhesion.
Which means I always invariably get a car length or two jump. Which translates to winning that "up to 75" race unless the thing is supercharged or a chipped diesel.
Anyone else notice that Ford's EFI motors for the last 10 years have this annoying thing where you can't just slam the pedal to the floor for max effect? You have to lean into it to get the max acceleration... At least, that's my experience. Sort of a bogging down of the intake flow. Or am I just showing how inexperienced a racer I am ?
Ram 2500/3500s Hemis are slow. The 5.7L gets bogged down easily with any kind of extra weight to move and like someone already said-these weigh about a ton more than a 1500. I gotten into some pissing contests with 3/4t Ram Hemis towing (both of us towing) and I've left them behind on highway hills with a heavier trailer behind my F250.
None of the guys with unloaded Ram 2500 or 3500 Hemis care to race when they see the V10 badge. Tend to ignore me at stoplights, like Charlie already said. I've been challenged by a few of them while they're behind me but when they pull up at a two lane or light they just fall back after they see they're not dealing with a 5.4 or diesel. Go figure.
I wouldn't mess with Ram 1500s. I don't know for sure about 3v V10s but a 5.7 Hemi engine in a truck that weighs 2200lbs less than mine is no contest. It's a 1/2 ton, and most any of them are faster than my F250 if they have any V8 engine. From the magazines I've read, most Ram 1500 5.7s run about a 7.5 second 0 to 60 and I really doubt even the 3v V10s do that. Maybe I'm wrong?? My 2v V10 4x4 does 0 to 60 in about 8.6s on a good day. Not much of a challenge to most V8 1/2 tons.
Mountain Hood is right on the money, and pretty damn close on the 0-60 times. Now the 05-06 3V Torqueshift should trim about a half second off of the 8.6 wich brings you down around the low 8's, which for a 8000lb truck thats pretty damn good! The best chance we would probably have is having a 2wd Reg cab V10 with a 4.30 LS rear end. I would think then being your wiehgt should be down around 6000lbs it would swing the table the other way! No matter how you look at it with even a 1/2 second difference in the 0-60 any spinning of the rear tires or a slow jump at the light will cause a larger deficiency than this!! In other words it many times comes down to the driver!
i saw a half ton hemi give a stock 94 mustang gt fits one night from a stop light till they let off at about 85, 345hp hemi vs. 215 hp mustang. the mustang was ahead by a fender and never gained the entire time. but like everyone says, the hemi in the 3/4 or 1 ton is no contest for a V10, even my 310 hp 2v 2000 model. my first post in awhile but i couldnt let it go by. the last 3 posts are about my lifeblood, RACING!
A little sarcasm is all, MH. You said the 2500's were slow, I just bragged about tearing the horns off'n one of them.... Thought I was chopping in high cotton.
