I don't think that it would have dried out enough to clear up the problem without first corroding the wire spring in the COP boot. In my case I was purposly driving through some deep puddles, and the problem persisted off and on for about four days before I gathered enough info to take a stab at repairing it myself.

My wife's friend however wouldn't go through a puddle if her life depended on it, her 2000 Expedition was sitting in the rain for a solid fourteen hours, not even being driven because she has a company vehicle at her disposal.
