I put on a new front hood tilt kit from john's f100 and it worked out pretty well. took about 2 hours and a couple of small cuts with a die grinder. most of the time was adjusting .
New hinges should work right, likely an adjustment problem, try moving the latch striker plate forward a bit (might be difficult to get to move, mark it's location on the latch panel and remove bolts completely, then reinstall further forwards based on your marks.
sounds like the springs are not tight enough with the hood open you might have to preload them tighter to have the hood stay up they have a tool to do it but i did it with vise grips and i dont recommend that

After you try adjusting the springs and they whap the #%&* out of you, get the tilt forward hood. I suggest getting the model that looks like mine instead of the billet units. Good luck, Jag
