1985 resistance wire

I am having trouble locating a new resistance wire for a 1985 5.0 EFI. Does anyone know where these are available?

I do not think the EFI with the TFI module has the resistance wire does it?

You're right Franklin2. It is not a resistance wire, but a resistor that is wired into one of the leads going to the coil. It is a part of the wiring harness. It is a brown piece of plastic about 1 1/2 or 2 inches long. The thing melted down on me and I can't find a replacement. Thanks.

I looked in the wiring diagram and I don't see anything going to the coil except on the white/lightblue wire I see they have a radio interference capacitor. Could this be it? Does the other end go to ground? I looked in some of the parts stores, and they do not seem to carry this. If does turn out to be the capacitor, you could leave it off with no harm done, unless you do get interference in the radio(probably AM stations).

I took the thing to an automotive electrical shop. The guy found a zig-zag mark that he said indicated it was a resistor, but he was unable to find out anything else about it. It has a green wire on both ends and is connected to the coil and about 3 or 4 other wires. It is located approximately a foot from the coil. I am trying to find an '85 with an intact wiring harness I can look at. Thanks for your input, Franklin 2.

It is a 22K Ohm Resistor Ford part # E4LB-14A601-A and goes to pin 4 of the ECA (EEC, ECM, PCM).
Pin #4 is the Ignition Diagnostic Monitor input from the Ignition Coil, TFI Ignition Module and Instrument Cluster With Tachometer.

Thanks, Subford. Is it available from a dealer as far as you know?

I think so, I think they started using them in 1985 (note the 84 part #) and used them on just about all EEC TFI trucks till at least 1993. The PCM ICM trucks did not use them, more than likely they have the resistor inside or generate the signal.

I found the resistor. My local Ford dealer had to order it, but it should arrive in "3 or 4 days." Thanks to all for your information.

Update...I am back on the road. I replaced the resistor, coil, and all affected wires and it runs fine...at least for now. Thanks for all your input.
