99 or 99.5

What is the difference and how can you tell? Is one better than the other?

Thanks

the 99.5 has the larger intakes, makes a little more pwr over the 99 big diff you can see is the 3" intake over the 2-3/8"

walking up to the truck, you can tell the difference, the early 99 has the V8 powerstroke badge on the front quarterpanel, where the current V8 and V10 gas labels are. from 99.5-2003, the PSD badge is on the door.

No, there were early 99 with the door badge.
Check your build date on the factory sticker on your door jamb. If it is before 12-08-98, then it is an early.

After 12-08-98 you will have the late 99 motor and cosmetic stuff. But it is still possible to have some random early 99 items. My truck is built feb-1999 and I have early 1999 front U-Bolts and the taller early 1999 blocks in the rear. My truck was being built in the cross over period I guess.

So I just ran out to the truck to read the door. The Date 05 98.
Pearl has 710,000 klm original motor and tranny.

So the 99's are ok too I would say.

Also the braks changed in 3-15-99 to 105 mm from 95mm on rotors. Hey they all run great and atleast you still get forged rods.
Also what is the conversion to miles on "PEARL" LPR

Mine has a build date 11/98 and has door badges and newer style air filter which all came stock I think. Many "early" 99s had the air filter drawing fresh air from the fender well. Anyway I removed the filter housing to do the Kwik filter mod so it really doesn`t matter, I`m just giving a bit more info. I think the injectors and the high pressure oil pump are slightly less flow also in early 99s.

If I had heard all these differences before I bought my truck combined with the mileage they probably would have scared me away. I made a great choice in buying this Ford and I was never sorry. I actually felt mine had a bit more power in stock form then my friend`s 03, but maybe I`m biased! Turbo housing and wheel are slightly smaller also. Hope this helps you make your decision, Dan ;;;;;;;;;;;;Forged rods are icing on the cake.

If it were me, I'd get a 99 built after 3/1/99. Mine is a pre-99, no problems, but aftermarket parts and items are more readily available for later 99' models.
