where did the tank selector switches come from the factory? did they come on the heater control when the truck had a/c also if they did how comon are they? if they dident is it posable to put it on to some kind toggle switch of some kind to run it?
You would have to check the schematic of the circuitry to determine if a toggle would work. I would think it would need more than a basic toggle switch though.
If you find one and happen to get a part number, post it up here. I think mine is going out on my '79 F-350.
Just so you know, mine is in the dash near the heater controls and it is a factory location. I have seen early 70's model Fords that had a manual selector switch on the floor by the door. However, I don't know if this was an add on by the owner or if it was factory.
A simple toggle switch might work to activate the selector valve. But the stock switch has more contacts than a simple toggle. The switch also switches the gas guage. So it has to have contacts for the valve, the guage and 2 sending units.
And the stock location for the switch is the right side of the climate control with or without A/C
My 74 F250 has a factory switch built into the heater/vent controls that switches the gauge reading from tank to tank. There is also a floor mounted lever that switches fuel from tank to tank.
