i have looked all around to try to found a oil pump strainer for my modified engine for my bronco. everywhere i seem to look either the people dont know of it is not available. my old strainer is unusable (crushed) by its previous owner. any help is appreciated. i need to find one soon.
well it seems that i have exhausted my possibilities. no junk yard has a 4wd engine, the pickup is obsolete from ford, and no one makes a pickup for stock applications anymore. well i guess i have to drop 350 for a new oil pan setup.
Summit carries new oil pump and pickup tube assemblies. At least they did a few years ago when I was switching from a front sump pan to a rear sump pan. I had to talk to someone in their tech department, but I got the right parts. This shouldn't be too hard to find, but I'm not the one looking for it. Good luck.
I had the same problem. I'm assuming you have a '78 or '79 Bronco. No one makes an aftermarket stock replacement oil-pickup screen for the '77 to '79 4WD pan. After talking to a local Ford engine rebuilding Guru, I was informed that Mellings makes a replacement screen for a '80-'81 Ford truck 351M 4WD. Melling's part # 84-AS2. The only difference between the '80-'81 oilpan and the '77-'79 oilpan is the '77-'79 pan has a relief or notch at the back of pan for the exhaust that crosses over from the driver's side of the truck. Make sure the pick-up clears the bottom of the pan between 1" to 2" clearance. My set-up fit with a light tap with a rubber mallet pushing the pickup away from the oilpan about a 1/2". Part is about $26.00 dollars. My local machine shop ordered it for me.

Just a little over an inch. This pickup is a little different from the '77-'79 4WD screen. The inlet is a small section that comes close to the bottom of the pan. 1/2 inch might cause restriction and it would be too close to the crud that settles at the bottom of the pan. On the '77-'79 pan the inlet is higher up in the screen area so it's away from the bottom more. Sorry I just buttoned up my new 400 so I don't have any pictures.
Hmm...I've always set mine up with between 3/8" and 1/2" clearance. I'd be scared of oil starvation with 1" to 2" of clearance but then I've never seen the Melling part.
