I have a 4.6, 280 hp, out of a 96 Mark VIII. I plan on swapping this engine into my 96 f150 in the future. Has anyone here done this or something similar. jim d
I want to see it!!
I wanted a Mark 4.6L DOHC in my Ranchero but won't fit without cutting her up. You should be able to use the Mark harness and ECU without much trouble especially if you have the 4R70W auto trans.
Trans in the truck is a 5 speed, and I didn't get the trans for the Mark VIII. I have a 94 T-bird parts car, and was thinking I might use that trans, but now I am not sure that it will work. I need to research a little more. Mark VIII's are pleantiful around here, so a trans won't be a problem. I did get the computer with the engine. But, I have a few more miles left in my 5.0, so I'm in no hurry. I want to have everything I need in place when I start the swap. jim d
If you find a usable 5-speed that a truck or van can use to couple with the 4.6DOHC (kenne bell anyone? > ) put up some trans model numbers as well as what you need to convert from automatic (i hate my auto)
Is the bell housing on the DOHC different from the SOHC? A Mustang or later F150 manual should work if they are the same. Like I say, I'm just now learning the DOHC. jim d
The bell housings from 4.6sohc to 4.6dohc will be exactly the same, if I'm not mistaken. The difference is in the heads, cams and intake bits. I'd like to swap a new, more efficient 4.6 SOHC or DOHC into my 85 Econoline. The Mustang or F150 manuals should work fine, since the 'stang and the F150 share a fair number of parts.
