Which Chip?

Well, I just brought home my new (new to me) 2001 F250 XLT Crew Cab Short Bed PSD Auto 4x4. I love it already. I want to give it some more giddy-up, but I dont want to tear the tranny out of it. And I understand that this can be accomplished while increasing MPG at the same time.

It has an AEM Brute Force intake, but nothing else special on it. I am looking to add a chip (I am not big on the idea of programmers, due to the amount of time needed to change the program).

I want to know what is the real deal. I know Jody is highly touted, but I dont want to spend a big pile of money. I have the payments now after all... What is the best chip for the buck, WITHOUT having to do any modifications? I would kind of like to find something selectable that is used on ebay...

And what is the best chip to use WITH other modifications? And what would those modifications be?

Hate to break it to ya - but there are some mods that you really should do to use any chip or tuner.... Gauges are a MUST before adding fuel - but you will get more out of your chip, and be a lot safer with: Gauges, Intake, and an exhaust.

Personally - I'd say save up until you CAN afford a DPtuner chip - you won't be sorry, and you won't be stuck upgrading later and spending more money on the thing you wished you would have gotten to begin with!! (I speak from experience - I had bought a tuner, canned that after a while and got a TS flip chip, and now... I'll be going with one of Jody's chips very soon)

I see that gauges can be added, but require drilling etc. You say intake mods? Such as? Exhaust totally necessary? The pipe on this thing is 3.5" across.

What are you going to do with your old chip?

Intake, I would say just do the "kwik" mod. Exhaust, I say free flow muffler or just muffler delete pipe. These are both cheap yet VERY effective.

search "kwik" mod for all the low down. Very easy and cheap.

Wink

Joshtrel,

I got to go along with the rest. 1st. gauges, then at least a 4" exhaust and finally (but, not the last) Jody's chip ! Gauges will set you back 'bout $280 to your door, aluminized exhaust with 5"SS tip 'bout $370 and the EVER POPULAR "JT's Flip Chip" anywhere from $275-$500 depending on how many settings you want! If you can only a'Ford one setting.....get the econo 80HP.
I have 6 settings but I keep it on 80 most all the time. You won't regret it!

Any suggestions where I get these things? The gauges, the exhaust etc? You reference specific $ amounts, I am guessing you have specific places to shop?

Lightbulb

I went through RPM Outlet, I had pretty good luck! Some other forks on this forum didn't have the same expierence. RPM isn't one of FTE supporters but they had the best prices! You might shop around?
