Yea, he's one of those usual armchair wheelers. Go with the lockers. I have one of the most capable 4x4 rigs on all of FTE and I don't even have a winch. Why do you think that is?

pretty much, lockers suck for ice. with both wheels spinning it is going to walk you all over the place. and if you are on a hill that leans to the side any bit at all and you start spinning your rear end is gonna start going down hill and there is no bringin it back up. ice is about the only thing a locker isnt good for.

No. Lockers suck donkeyballs on ice. Open diffs are best on ice.

Here's on thing about a winch, if you go that way:

If you buy the winch are you going to be using it more than once a month to make the $800 or so price tag of a good winch worth it, ie are you going to be using it enough to get your money's worth out of it, if the answer's no get a locker (a lockright would work great for you) for at least the front axle (for ice a locker for the front is the best as it at least has the weight of the motor over it to give you traction).

Ive for the locker but when you said something about ice its kinda ify so then Im thinking get a nice spool for the front and if you are in heavy ice like the road is a nice little ice rink and you dont have chains get the wench but if you are in ice that is in patches and you have chains get the locker and buy two good come alongs and you shouldnt have to worry and oh yea get a high lift jack make your life easier when you do get stuck.

I dont know about lighter rigs -im sure they work well on them- but I have never been able to get out with one. No matter what Ive stacked under it, it either sinks or breaks. Then again, my truck is a little heavy.

One redneck trick my friend and I developed was to jack the truck up and throw his spare tire at the jack. then it moves the truck out of the ruts...sometimes.

Dont forget, the highlift can also be used as a 7000lb. winch. Just need enough cable to anchor to.

im sure that steel would work for me, but i dont really want to haul that around, or a high lift. my friend had one, but lost it in a flood after offroading. I may get one just yet...

Hi-Lift makes a special base for their jacks that have a large foot print so they don't sink out of site in the mud. If you get the jack invest in the base too. FWIW the Hi-Lift really saved my butt a few times before I got the truck lifted.

In my situation would it be better to use a limited slip then a complete locker? I am leaning towards waiting on a winch. Let me know and thanks for all of the input

I am running 33 inch tires, and by trails I mean wet and dry, not sever mud. Mostly up in the hills in the Forest. This is my daily driver so I can't go to extreme
