A cousin of mine put up his truck which was supposed to bestored for about a year and 1/2. However he unwraps it after only a year and the engine is good to go. But now the transmission grabs to much at idle speed and will choke the motor when the brake is applied to hold it back. I think that a valve or something is stuck in the transmission and he was also told that the torque converter is bad. So in other words, with the shift in nuetral or park the engine runs ok, but put it in gear and the engine dies because it wants to pull ahead. It also does this in reverse. On the road it shifts great as it used to before he put it up for the year. What could be the problem?
The problem is the torque converter. You will need to replace it. Seen this happen before. It operates like a standard pulling up to a stop without clutching.
What happens when a torque converter locks up? If it is totally mechanical ,what usually takes place that causes the lock up? Also if there are electrical components involved with a torque converter, what part do they play in the behavior of the transmission/torque converter ie purposfully locking the torque converter? Since the transmission and converter performed well before why would it decide not to clutch normally at idle? The fluids are up and in good color but they have not been changed after the year of setting. Is all the clutching done at the torque converter only or is there another clutching process within the transmission? Could not a complete fluid change and some addative help?
