Okay guys and gals, I have a 460 that I have had rebuilt and I need some advice. The motor has been punched .030 over with everything else stock. This motor is going into my '76 F-250 4x4 Highboy with a C-6 and a NP-205. I plan on using this truck as an occasional driver with some mud playing and hauling my 4-wheeler.I would like to have a little bit of a rumble at idle but not looking to win any races. I have a performer intake and a Edelbrock 4-barrel carb (600-ish cfm). What would be the best cam for my application? I am also running dual exhaust with flowmaster mufflers. Thanks for your help!
I would say you should be pretty happy as-is, but if you must get a cam, check out the Comp Cams Extreme 4x4. Supposed to be built with 4x4s in mind rather than Mustangs and other race cars.
hello
you should find your gear ratio it will play a big part in selecting a cam if you get a cam with lope to you will lose low end but gain high end if your 460 has stock comp ratio i would suguest going to napa and geting a good r.v. cam 229-1732
this would be a good cam it has peak peform at around 2800 to 3000 but rember you have an auto this will affect what cam you decied to use
Michael, I am running 38's and 4.56 gears. Maybe this will help in the selection of a cam. Remember, I'm not looking to win any races just want a little bit more torque and that good old rumble at idle. Thanks alot
