Mass Airflow
I originally replaced my factory MAF a few years ago (still have it) for two reasons;
1. Ford TSBs talk about lean driveability symptoms with a defective factory MAF, which I was experiencing.
2. The Factory MAF was not designed with optimum airflow in mind. They have a big bar splitting the MAF right down the middle and severely disrupting the airflow. The aftermarket MAFs have that bar removed and provide much better much smoother airflow.
I am looking now because when I went to discuss possible recalibration for new injectors with Pro-M, I discovered they had gone out of business. My factory injectors have 130,000 miles on them, and I have a brand new set of Accel injectors sitting on my workbench. The Accel injectors are 21lb as opposed to the factory 19lb, although Accel insists that the 21lb injectors are the optimum replacement for the factory injectors. My only concern is that the MAF Sensor is calibrated for 19lb injectors and I am going to have problems down the road.
I am considering going back to Ford and buying a brand new factory MAF, and crossing my fingers that the calibration curve will be OK. I am a little stymied as to why no one supports aftermarket MAF for the 96 trucks anymore, I suppose there just aren't enough of us out there.
I would appreciate any input, ideas, suggestions you might have.
Thanks,
Tom
Apperently there are some aftermarket companies that still sell their products. i'm not sure if they still sell to the general public anymore. only to the other aftermaerket companies like Edelbrock. which is something you might want to check with. they have some of pro-m parts in the catalog i think. but it takes some research. i too am looking for updates in the matter
