Yes the body will fit on the 79 4x4 frame. Is the boady from the 72 a 4x4 or 2wd? Is the 72 cab auto or 4 on the floor? What tranny is in the 79? The bed will fit but you will need to drill new holes because the 79 frame is wider. The cab may need new holes drilled in the rear but its not a problem.
the 72 is a long bed it has a automatic in it. the 79 is a 4 on the floor but i dont think that will be that big of a problem to fix. the 72 is a 2wd. drilling the holes i think will be my biggest problem. how much wider is the 79?
The hump in the cab floor on the 79 cab, you will have to unbolt it and either bolt it into the 72 cab where that one was bolted or drill new holes if that one is solid or use it as a template to cut your own holes for the 4spd and 4x4 shifters. As for the bed i believe the frame on your 79 is 4 inches wider then on the 72. I believe the cab should be a direct bolt on because its from a 2wd, the rear cab mount holes should be on the cross member as they are are on the cross member on the 79 frame.

I would do it from the bottom up, so got through the cross member then into the cab so it is lined up correct. Make sure before you drill that you have the cab and or bed lined up with everything else first then drill.

The cab should bolt down with the 4 hole no problem. i know the front 2 100% will fit with no drilling. The wiring, i would change it over to the 72 because some of the connectors are different, such are the taillights plug is different then the 79's, others might be as well.
