I am checking to see if my oil preesure is ok. After running for a while, when I come to a light, the needle points at "o" on normal at 600 rpm and at cruise it is at "a" on normal. The motor has about 45k since complete rebuild. Thanks for the help.
I would install a mech. gauge to be sure, but this is pretty typical of M motors. Mine pegs an 80# gauge when cold, but falls to 20-25# hot idle in gear.
You know Tuff my 400m does the same thing, shows good oil pressure when cold, then when fully warmed up it drops at idle. My mechanic says this is normal, and my engine is original with very low miles.
Shoot, mine has tons of miles on it and it reads in the "A" range when cold and drops to almost naught at idle when warm. I see alot of posts like this and I am just curious if it is just make related or does this happen to all types of motors of this era?
LAST EDITED ON 06-Feb-01 AT 01:54 PM (EST)[p]Its just a thing with the 400. They all do it. Theres oil pressure. I bet you can hear it "pinging too". It will run for 100,000 like that and beyond. Most guys I know that have a 400 have the same problem. Aint Fords great?
If its really bad you might need mains or when oil heats up it thins out so it could just be normal from the oil heating up. I wouldnt worry about it unless its not even reading on the gauge.
