I just got a pioneer cd player and i want to put it in my 78 f150 the crutchfield rep said i would have to cut a hole in my dash where my other radio was. Has anybody out there done it and if they have could you explain to me how i would go about it.
I've installed to cd players in my trucks, they just had the **** decks in them. Its pretty easy to change this just remove the old deck and then measure the width of the new deck for the whole you will need to cut out. Then cut the metal straight across. then you just need to secure it from behind. But make sure you cut the whole so it is a snug fit.
When I put in a radio in my 78, I used the DIN sleeve as a template on where to chop the hole. Just center it over the present radio holes. There is enough room behind the dash for the radio, you just have to cut a hole for the faceplate to stick through.

The hole he may be talking about is in the plastic dash trim piece. its only made to accept a tuner face and then the two **** holes. I trimmed mine with a Dremel using the sleeve as a guide. getting the sleeve solid is a trick, I used a small wire welder and tacked it to the metal frame that holds the radio and heater controls. it took some time to make sure it was where I wanted it, but hasn't moved since.

i was looking at it tonight and i think the metal and the plastic piece would have to be cut. Does anybody have pics? If you do it would be alot of help. IF you don't know how to post them here send the email to jcarl250r(No Email Addresses In Posts!). THanx
