Auto swap, and frame swap, 78 F150

Has anyone pulled out a T-18 and put in a C6 Or C4 auto? It there much to it? Has anybody put a 4x4 frame under a 2x4 body is there any difference, aside from the transfer case hole? Can I run the 4x4 frame with a 2wd tranny till I get a transfer case and matching auto tranny? The truck in question is a 78 F150 2wd with 351 W, T-18, and 9". The long bed is junk, so I want to slap on a short bed, is there a difference between mounts on a short bed fame and longbed frame (as far as the cab is concerned).

Yep, Jo is right. I'm doing the same thing right now. I just bought a 2wd w/ a good body and 4wd w/ a beat body. You can keep your tranny that you have, you just need to change the output shaft in the tranny and output shaft housing. You can run the tranny you have now until you get a the parts for the trans and the tcase.

By the way, I have all the parts you need
and the cab mounts are all the same shortbox or long box. I'd keep the longbox though.

I would keep the long box, but I have a camper that fits a short box, and I will be using it more off road than on, so I think the shorter wheelbase iis better. I will more than likely use whatever box the 4wd frame is. I have yet to buy one, just looked at a few, and have yet to find on without structural damage or severe rust. Thanks, Eric
