My 97 Expedition has a rough idle, hesitates when i take off and sputters at times while moving at any speed. No SES light is on is there still a way to troubleshoot this w/o getting raped by the dealer or whoever. It has 131,000 miles i traded my acura for it now i finally have some american power...help me out guys.
I spent two weeks chasing a rough idle just like yours in my 99, 5.4L. Traced vacuum lines first,no leaks. Then tried to isolate a coil or plug problem. Not it. Next thought was o2 sensor, but no code so move on. Figures out rough idle was so bad that it couldn't be caused by one cylindar, so I moved to engine management. Did search here and found DPFS senors seemed to be a main topic. Paid $54 bucks for one at parts store and 10 minutes later motor running great. I then replaced EGR to try and pick up some fuel milage since I saved about $500 doing all the work myself.
How did that work out? I've got an 01 with 90k miles, and has a rough idle too. Was thinking of replacing same. Let me know what results if any you got.
I just had my injectors cleaned, throttle body decarbon, all that and still runs the same, a slight shake when idle. Thanks!
have had the same problem with my 98, 5.4. it's gotten so bad that it started shutting off at real low speed or in idle. good thing, it finally spit out a code. P305 bad #5. Bought the COP last night (shop discount at Kragen, oh yeah!) and am replacing tomorrow. Hopefully that will do the trick.
