i was given a 25' gooseneck trav trailer its very rough but the price was rite. my problem is the hook up on the trailer looks a lot like it was made to hook to the reciever off the bumper with a drop hitch turned upside down with the ball on the top , there is no way to get it in to where my gooseneck ball is ( under the flat bed) its about 2' long and looks like a bumper pull set up. i brought it home using the slip in hitch upside down and it worked very well i only needed about 8" to level it. im guessing the tunge weight is around 6-800# is this safe to use this way or will the CHP have a field day with me??? (my bumper reciever is very stout i have no dout it is strong enough i can weld way better than i can spell)
Maybe you could just mount another ball on top of your flat bed - shouldn't be too hard. If there's not a place that's stout enough for it, adding a heavy piece of channel iron under the bed shouldn't be a problem. Weld the nut to the bottom of the bed, and that way you could remove the ball leaving only a small hole in the top of the bed.
Towing it with your reciever hitch sounds a little spooky to me, and I bet it will to the highway patrol as well.
ok i put a pic on my gallery . i do pull lots of other trailers out of that gooseneck under the trap door in the bed and i dont want to mess with it it works very well. it just seems that the ball would need to be held up aways off the bed , if you were to pull it over a off camber hill the back of the hitch would hit the bed.
Yeah, I see what you mean. Looking at the pic, my thought is to cut off the hitch that's there and replace it with a standard adjustable stem. I agree that another ball would need to be raised off the bed quite a bit, and tall as that bed is already, that prob'ly won't work with a trailer that's low enough you can pull with your reciever hitch.
Thanks for the complament ,do you guys know of any place that sells a adjustable stem that i could fab in. That sounds like the next best way to go. Thanks again!!
