Assistance identifying a 1962 or 1970 F600 Dump Truck

I first tried in the 61-66 forum but my warantee number number appears to be newer than 62. Below is my post from the other forum.

Thank you for the help!

I have been working on a 62 F600 for a scout camp in my area. I need some assistance in identifying the exact type so I can try to track down parts for it.

Here is the information I have. I don't think I have the actual VIN. It seems to have disappeared many years ago under paint applied to the truck.

The number found on the door is 560BE1144665.

I was told at one point it was a 1970, but 1962 makes more sense.

I have a starter part number of 2449628.

Also I was told it is a 2 1/2 ton. It is a inline 6.

I am working on the brakes. What is happening is shortly after the master cylinder is filled it runs dry after stopping a few times. Appears to be a leak somewhere. I was able to get the lines presurized again, but I held the pedal as firm as I could and did not feel any sag or see any leaks. That was without the vacuum assist, that is the next step is to try the same with the engine running to get the assist in. The flex hoses to the front wheels are brittle and the flex hose to the rear axle is brittle as well. Those are the ones I am looking for at this time to replace. I am not against using newer hoses and fabbing new mounts for them if needed. I don't have the parts in front of me at this time, but I believe they are 1/4 fittings (lines).

Single wheel cyclinders in the front, duals in the rear, frame mount vacumm boster.

Please let me know if there is anything else I could look at to either ID the truck or track down the leak.

Thank you for the help! This seems to be a very useful board!

That is definately NOT a 62! It has the hood of a '67 - '72, so that should help you get closer in the ball park.

The fenders seem similar. I should have taken a picture of the whole truck last time I was there. I only have pictures of the brake lines unfortunately . Is the 62 fenders quite a bit different? In the picture you sent, the remote brake booster and running boards look the same. So it may be a 70 then.

Are there any good places on the engine or frame to get a reference number to try to get a better read on the year?

Thanks!

I have a 67 F700 dump truck I'm trying to get going turnin' into a Full restoration unfortunately. I have had extensive experience with the brakes as this one probably same as yours sat for an unknown amount of time.Changed the master cylinder, brake booster mine mounts under drivers step all the wheel cylinders and lines as necessary If they show no signs of wear and tear they work. I had the same problem bleed system, get good pedal couldn't see any leaks leave it and try brakes again after a week no pedal at all my leak was in the front wheel cylinders (backs were already changed). I have also purchased new drums all part #'s for this truck were practically obsolete finally found two at $ 500.00 and took 2 weeks to arrive .I got an excellent deal on tires and rims aluminum low pro's told they would bolt right on Wrong now I am hunting down old budd style longer stud bolts and takin' it all apart again. It doesn't matter though when it gets done and it will who remembers the problems.Ain't many of these rides left. I'll post pics of all my ford trucks when I ain't so busy workin' on them lol.
