I am new to this list, I am hoping to find an answer to a question here. I am trying to find a pair of headers to go onto a '78 F150 4x4, and so far not having much luck. The engine is a 400, with 351 heads.
Jake headers are a pain in the ice, run a good set of duals and you will have spent less money time and effort, and have as good of performance from a daily driver as with headers. If you are planning to race the truck then it is a different matter.

you can hear chevys rusting away.
air- headers are a must for some us. The FE has the worst exhaust manifolds I've ever seen.Your 400 manifolds are not quite as bad, but headers are still a good idea. They can be hard to install and you ought to insulate the starter, but I wouldn't run without them. Our friend John has Hookers on his truck, and I think he is less than happy with them. If his experience is anything normal for that brand, maybe you would like to try Hedmans, they offer some for your truck. Try them at http://www.hedman.com DF
I was looking at headers in some magazine and it said 65-72 f-250 (not camper special). What's the difference between a regular F-250 and a camper special, as far as headers go?
'70 F-250 Camper Special 360/C-6 3.73 8 mpg uphill or down
I can't imagine why any header that fits a standard truck wouldn't fit a CS. What brand of header says that? If you don't have headers yet, Stan's and Sanderson's are well though of among FE-ers. DF
[font color=red size=3]If I'm not mistaken (which I could be) I believe that the difference is the sway bar. I think the the long tube headers won't clear the anti-sway bar on the CS model. But the Sanderson shorty headers would clear (if you can afford to get them).
DF, I have hedmans on my truck and dont particularly care for them, I would rather have them than the manifolds, but they have interference issues with the transmission dust cover on the truck 4 speed bellhousing. It happened on my truck's and on a buddy of mine's 65 F100 with a 3 on the tree w/overdrive
The reason the Camper Special is excluded is because of the second gas tank located along the left, inside the frame where the exhaust pipe would route from the flange.
