Adding a trans temp gauge - what brand?

Have a '04 F150, 5.4, 4x4 Screw. Occasionally pull either a 22' pontoon boat or 27' travel trailer. No question that I need a transmission temperature gauge. I've searched some prior posts and am trying to determine a what brand gauge to buy. Am looking for some type of single pod installion.

Would greatly appreciate input from you guys that have installed one. Responses with links to your photo galleries would be great. Also, recommendations on where to buy would be appreciated.

Thanks.

this might not be the answer your looking for, but if u don't have a programmer and are looking at getting one sometime, the edge programmer has a transmission temp gauge as well as coolant etc. u wont have to bother with hooking up any gauges plus u get a towing program for more power and better mph. just a thought

Get an EDGE Evolution you can monitor anything you want (just about) and much much more. If you have black interior the mount becomes part of the dash. It also has color change LCD to match factory. I wouldn't want to drive without it.

Autometer Makes some good guages..Ford Racing makes there own...VDO...there are many out there and all are prety decent quality for what you will be using them for. I myslef would go with Autometer because of their wide selection of styles and types but that is my opinion.

Gauges

Thanks for the replies thus far. I already have a Superchips tuner that I'm pretty happy with, can't see investing in another one right now.

I've looked at the Autometer but would like to see some installed pics of a single pod as well as info. on the best place(s) to buy.

Thanks.

I bought autometer tranny temp, f/a and boost in the cobalt. I gotta get around to hooking them up sometime. Think it ran 70 bucks for it.

I used to have a set of pillar mounted Autometer Ultralites in my '00 F250 PSD. I really liked them, and they were easy to read at night.

If you are just worried about the temp during towing, why not just read it off the tuner?

As a reminder (most don't know this) the TFT displayed by the tuner is actually 5-10F higher that what the actual tranny fluid temp is being shown by a guage attached to the service port. The TFT is read inside the "guts" of the tranny where the most heat is.

What ever you decide to do, just keep the temps below 200-210F as the lubrication properties of the ATF really drop off after that point.
