HD 5 speed????

HD 5 speed????
Just purchased a 1990 F250 4X4 with 5.8l and a 5 speed. I looked up the code and it just said Heavy Duty 5 speed. Is different transmission than the ZF or is it the same? Just curious.

the only other 5speed i can think of that they put in trucks was the m5od and that was in the 150s so that is probably what it is, is 1st gear a granny gear and 5th over drive? if so then that is it.

Actually, Ford had only two manual transmissions (that i know of) they put in the later model trucks. One was the M5od (light duty) and the ZF (heavy duty). If i remember correctly, the W meant the zf transmisison and M means m50d. if you have a five speed with granny first, more than likely you have a zf.

it says in the axle code chart in the articals that C is close ratio and in parentisis it says Z-F. W just say HD 5 speed with over drive. Not saying you guys are wrong. Mine does have granny low.
