Anyone have a secrets to clean up my aluminum intake manifold? It's starting to look a little grungy and dirty and I'd like to do a little spring cleaning, there's chrome around the engine so nothing to strong.
Thanks,
John
Sorry to HIJACK but i to have the same problem.I have crome valve covers and an eddie allumunum intek.I used castrol engine cleaner and it OXYDIZED my intek and carb. How do I get it off???????????????????????????????????????
It is just about impossible to make a used intake look decent after any use, sniff...
A pressure washer with hot soapy water does a good job. I have sandblasted some parts before just to get that *new* look back, a bit extreme, but the engine was already apart
If the intake is off the truck take it to a tranny shop and see if they can clean it for you. They use solutions and temperatures that are more suited for aluminum than what you'd get from an engine shop. A lot of guys will powdercoat intakes which seals up the pourosity and makes them much easier to clean. A silver powdercoat looks like the natural aluminum finish but won't stain. I suppose there's some high temp clear coats that could do the same thing if you got it clean enough first.
If you sandblast it make sure you protect the carb pad and intake flanges.
