Hello people. I was just wondering if any of you had any suggestions on injector cleaners? I was going to throw a bottle in this weekend but first I was wondering if you all had a specific type that ya felt was better than the other.
I have been using the STP Complete Fuel System cleaner (silver bottle) for years now on all my fuel injected vehicles. If I am remembering correctly...it recommends using it only every 4000 miles. It is part of my regular maintenance when I do an oil change.
I would try chevron with tecron. My unlce is a the night formon for a GM service center and informed me when they do a fuel injector cleaning they essetially run this stuff through at 100% strength. He told me the best thing I could do is drain my tank down below a quarter, dump in a whole bottle, drive untill the tank is as low as I feel comfortable running it. when I refil he said to add another bottle to the new tank and you should be good to go. I've done this numerous times with my cars and have yet to run into a problem so I have no reason not to take his word for it. You can get the stuff at any autoparts store but I do think its like $10 per bottle. The other that he recomended was the JB injector cleaner.
I try to only use Chevron Fuel and it has plenty of the techron in it.
I try hard to keep my tank more then 3/4 full all the time to reduce the amount of condensed water in the fuel.
Bottom line is that I have never added any cleaners into the fuel on my V10s.
I have several other injected motors that respond well to various fuel injector cleaners... best I have found was the Techron. But every now and then find a deal on the Lucas stuff so I get a few bottles.
There's not much competition here in Redneckville on gasoline. Just about all the stations have what they have. I do realize the techron is a good cleaning agent, but they only add that at the distribution point - so it really depends on the condition of the underground tanks here, which is pretty nasty...
most of the factory fuel system cleaners a dealer sells is techron. even the stuff harley sells techron. all the years i spent in a dealers shop techron worked the best.
do as sle says then add a big bottle every 2nd or 3rd tank. for my own a add a small bottle every tank load and have yet to have any problems.
heck i even add a small bottle to my 5 gal can for my lawn tools every thing runs great.
Yep, I end up adding a bottle here and there since we have no chevron gas up here and god only knows what additive package each station is using. I generally fill at BP or Cenex but like I said we have no chevron so the best you can do is pickup the stuff in the bottle and dump one in every few tanks, of course that is if the system is already clean. if not and you think you ahve a sticky injector follow my instructions up top.
Bottom line is that I have never added any cleaners into the fuel on my V10s.
Me neither. Around here, the gas tanks look perfect inside on vehicles that have 100K miles...
Never added anything to any of my motors.
I figure with the money I save by not putting additives in the tank, I should have enough left over for a complete set of new injectors if I ever need them
no chevron around me either, in fact we have 3 no brands, 2 mobil's, a golf a getty. and a citco. 69 sq miles of town thats it. and only 2 have diesel and don't sell much so it's winter blend all year round.
i don't trust any of them and buy my techron by the case . i know a small bottle in every tank could be too much, but i feel better haveing it in my tanks. small price to pay for piece of mind. and my 40 k truck. or even my boat.
what? no i use whats in stock but know what you mean. what i do use is store and start and techron together. this new gas breaks down to fast and some times the boat sits for a long time between uses. why chance a $800.00 carb getting gummed up. yah 800 for a stinking rochester 2 barrel
This thread reminds me that I need to buy some more sta-bil. Takes 4-6 weeks for me to go through a tank of fuel and, as an attempt to stay on-topic, sta-bil has fuel injector cleaner in it.
